The National President and Chief Executive of an anti-corruption organisation, Al-Mushahid Initiative for Transparency and Accountability (AITA), Ambassador Aminu Majidadi has described the Federal High Court judgement on Tuesday in Owerri which reinstated the impeached Deputy Governor of Imo state, Prince Eze Madumere as a triumph of democracy.
Reacting through a press release which was made available to journalists on Saturday in Abuja, he commended the judiciary for not only saving a precarious situation that would have cast slur on Nigeria’s democracy, but said, the judiciary has proved itself as the last hope of the common man.
He expressed that the institution of democracy could only be sustained if the judiciary stood for justice, saying that the case of Prince Eze Madumere who is the Deputy to Governor,Rochas Okorocha would strengthen the nation’s democracy.
“Democracy is not tied to an individual who should decide how it works, but a collection of individuals, hence the reinstatement of Imo Deputy Governor, Prince Eze Madumere by the State High Court sitting in Owerri will further strengthen our democracy”, Ambassador Aminu said.
“This development would have questioned our democracy if the Court was not there to do the right thing considering the high level of impunity with which Imo Deputy Governor was impeached in July. “

According to him, corruption transcends stealing of public funds, stressing that when due process was set aside by a public officer in dealing with official issues, it constituted corruption.
Majidadi commended President Muhammadu Buhari for tackling corruption headlong in the last three years, adding that Nigerians were not surprised since anti-corruption fight was part of the promises he offered Nigerians during his electioneering campaign.
He urged the judiciary to consolidate efforts of Buhari led administration by dispensing corruption cases as at when due.
He further pointed that corruption index has been reduced to the barest minimum, a development he noted, has restored the world’s confidence in dealing with Nigeria and Nigerians.
“Nigeria’s corruption index has reduced and it has made other countries to have confidence in doing business with Nigerians whip one could see from volumes of businesses”, he said.
