The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had on Saturday November 17, 2018 nominated Almushahid Initiative for Transparency and Accountability (AITA) among others to monitor Bye Elections taking place in three local governments of Katsina State namely Ingawa, Kankia and Kusada where the All Progressive Congress (APC) scored a massive victory.
According to the reports made available to AITA’s media office in the Abuja Headquarters by Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), the All Progressive Congress won with total votes of 48, 518 followed by PDP with 20, 193 while PRP came third scoring 1, 810 and the YES party 221.
Katsina State is situated in the northwest geopolitical zone of Nigeria. The state was created from the old Kaduna state in the year 1987 with 34 local government areas whose capital is Katsina. Other major towns are Funtua, Daura and Malumfashi and main languages are Hausa and Fulfulde predominantly Muslims and a mix of Christians whose main occupation is farming.
AITA’s monitoring staff in the elections process testifies that elections were peaceful and transparent all round without any grievances from any of the participating parties. As a Transparency and Accountability Anti-Graft NGO, the elections process is important to us as part of our contribution to the nations building and maintenance of democracy which, it’s the duty of all Nigerians to guide and guard with all jealousy.
